John

John lived in the lighthouse to escape from everyone. He didn't believe that he fit in and didn't agree with the world he was living in. He wanted space from everyone and everything there. He wants to time to himself, to be independent.

Differences between Reservation vs. Civilization

The civilized world is more fortunate than the reservation. It holds more money and power than the other. The civilized world is not allowed to use love and mother or father. All they do is have sex and teach children at a young age that books are bad and nature is bad. They completely blow over the idea of death and see it as a good thing.

Sexual Behavior

In Brave New World sex is portrayed as something normal as it is here. What is different though is that you are suppose to have sex with multiple people to fit in. As Christians we don't believe until sex after marriage which is the way it should be.  Kids in this book are forced to have sex and are taught at a young age that having sex with one person isn't good. It should be with multiple people.

Bernard's Transformation

Bernard had a different outlook on things when he got back from the reservation. He wished that he would've lived this way his whole life. He started taking soma again and started acting differently. He also went to visit Linda and John.

Advertisements

Soma is being advertised as something good for the people. The people of Brave New World know nothing else besides the way soma makes you feel. I could relate this to cigarettes. Although they are not portrayed as being something to benefit you in this world they make people happy. People don;t realize how dangerous and harmful certain things are until they are told by someone else. When John saw what soma did to Linda, his mother, he wanted soma gone. He didn't want anyone else taking it because he saw how badly it damaged his mother.

Technology

I think that one important piece of technology that is used in my everyday life would be a computer or also a laptop. I think that the advantages of having a laptop are that they make school work a lot easier. For instance you are able to type papers without having to write them and the computer can help proofread your work. Also you can look up information for classes and they are also an important tool for communicating with people. A danger that happens very often are if your laptop happens to stop working or break down you don't have any access to the work you have been doing.

Modern Satire

Satire is everywhere in today's world. We see it especially on Saturday Night Live skits, comics in the newspaper, online, in video games and even on awards shows.

"A Modest Proposal"

Swift's mother left him at a young young age because she wasn't able to provide for him. She was too poor and he was too sick and she wasn't able to help him. Maybe that's why in "A Modest Proposal" he questions many things. He was ill so maybe his illness had something to do with this.

Why I Blog

I think that blogging is different for everyone. Everyone in the world blogs about different things. For example we as students blog for class, where as others may blog for fun. Blogs vary depending on someones interest. You can find a blog on pretty much anything such as fashion, art, books, or even about your everyday life. I would like my name to be on my blogs, I want credit for the work that I am going to be putting out on the internet. If you want it to be a mystery or saying stuff that you shouldn't then you would use a made up name so people wouldn't know you. Opening up a blog to the public can be a good thing, people all over the world will be able to see what you've worked on.

Impressed by Nature

A couple of years ago I vacationed to Yellowstone National Park and it was absolutely breathtaking. The waterfalls were gorgeous and the wildlife was amazing. We went during the summer time and it wasn't too hot or too cold it was just right. The sunsets were beautiful, it was like something you would see in a magazine or in a movie. It was almost as if every place we went was photo shopped because it looked so perfect.

what does romantic mean?

When I think of romance I think of two people falling in love. I guess to me it makes me think of love story. For example, The Notebook or The Titanic. They are two love stories about two young people falling in love and then their story once they are grown up. Romance is basically the love two people share with one another.
